The Star Trek Inspired Corset just might be the hottest article of clothing I've seen in a long time.
I know, right?
And assuming the model is legal... damn.

CNN called it for Obama. The world just got brighter.

"Contrary to the rumors you have heard, I was not born in a manger. I was actually born on Krypton and sent here by my father, Jor-el, to save the planet Earth."
- Obama, joking at a NY charity dinner on Thursday

I went to Santa Monica last night to hear Neil Gaiman read Chapter 7 of The Graveyard Book.
The man is the best storyteller of his generation, or mine. And by a fair margin; having met and listened to more than one of his contemporaries and great men in their own right, I feel I am experienced enough to say so.
It was my first experience with my favorite author, and a man I've idolized for almost a decade. Really, really extraordinary writer. I also saw a sneak preview of Coraline also; can't wait for the release.
A wonderful night, all around.

Not me:
I wrote myself a tool that nightly crawls (via weblogs.com pings) every blog post made between 2-3am, that hour when one's guard suddenly dissipates, looking for phrases like "I shouldn't be posting" and "unsent letter".
Clearly, I have to do this now. I mean, come on.

from Neil Gaiman's blog:
I just called my Visa card to fix something, and found myself being asked if I was the Neil Gaiman. I said yes, I was. "So," said the Visa person, "Are you going to be writing an episode of Dr Who?"

Okay, internets, we all know you're full of people with nothing but time on their hands, and a collectively fucked-up sense of humor, but the entire Bible translated into LOLcat? Really?
Joshua 9:3 But wen Gibeonz gaiz heerd wut Joshua didz,4 dey uzd a trik! Dey went wif rly old an holey bagz5 an wor old cloz an holey sandulz. An deyr cheezburgerz wuz old an bad foar nomming.6 An dey went to Joshua an sez "We'z frum far awai. We can haz trety?"

Okay, yeah... so I've been a slacker as far as actually posting my pictures goes. Still, I've been taking them every day - just not taking the time to post them. Urgh. Will explain more in the photo post for Monday, which is the point in the week where I start waking up at 4:45am to catch a bus. :P Will accelerate posting to catch up.
Sunday was generally uneventful, had breakfast with friends in Reno then headed out early for the drive home. By this point, my camera's battery was dry and so Sunday's photos were taken with my cell. Must bring charger next time. Anyway...

Edited: Blah. LoudTwitter's self-relevant posts are annoying, so I'm discontinuing the service. I still like Twitter for making Facebook status updates via mobile, but this posting-crap-without-telling-me isn't really cool at all.

RIP Gary Gygax. :(
Rough week. So many of the people I wanted to meet or get to know better are dying...

And will be seeing Tulsa folk (and some travellers too) in a week for NYE. ^__^
12/11/07 04:02 pm
Every post and phone call I'm hearing from the Tulsa area is practically post-apocalyptic; the photos and news footage makes it look like a winterland war zone. An inch of accumulated ice is making hundred-year-old trees snap like gunshots, sometimes audible for miles.
Almost 600,000 homes and businesses without power statewide; virtually no residential power in Tulsa. People going into work early and staying late, sometimes overnight; no reason to go home and sit in the dark. My mom's cell phone died talking to me last night; she had to go out to the car to charge it. Everyone seems to be posting from work or a wi-fi restaurant or rushing to conserve a laptop battery.
Meanwhile, 250 miles further north in Cincinnati, we're enduring a 62-degree mid-December day. So bizarre. And seems like only last month, other friends and family were dealing with California wildfires; it's as if everyone I know has experienced some version of elemental madness this year.
If there's a bright side I hope it's that at least nobody's holiday plans are disrupted. Two weeks 'til Christmas.
So maybe I can't do anything about the weather or the electricity for my friends' homes, but I'm thinking about all of you guys.

SNOW

In love with this show. I was already a big fan of Bryan Fuller and Todd Holland from Wonderfalls (and Heroes), and this stars Lee Pace (Wonderfalls), Chi McBride (Boston Public), and Kristin Chenoweth!!! <3
Very clever writing and gorgeous filmography, absolutely made for HDTV. Ah, how a big-screen and HD has reinvigorated my interest in TV and video games.
In other news, it is fall and yay for sweaters. Also for coffee with Bailey's. ^_____^
old rocking chair will get me

"Flamethrown" (a verb meaning to have one's smoldering carcass jettisoned across a map by a close-range blast from the similarly named weapon) is not a word. But I've heard it twice (in its appropriate context) in the last 24 hours, so perhaps it should be.
In other news, Halo 3 is fun.

I am far from a "gadget guy" by any measure. While I do keep a stable of personal computer equipment and accessories -- laser printer, scanner, Wacom tablet, external drives, dual monitors, laptop -- every one was either purchased by my current or previous employers, or was at some point necessary to do my job. And little of it is cutting-edge, or was when I bought it.
More to the point, I'm neither an early adopter nor willing to pay retail for almost anything, especially technology. I'm not cheap so much as, well -- okay, I'm pretty cheap when it comes to buying things for myself, unless I can see some significant return on investment.
In this regard, September has been out of the norm. Just before Labor Day, I purchased my first MP3 device - the 4G 30GB iPod. Then two weeks ago traded it in at the same Apple Store for the 80GB all-metal "Classic" (at the same price plus restocking; couldn't pass that up).
Then last week I bought my first television. (My TV in college, and for years afterward in Tulsa, was an old 27" given to me by a friend; I gave it away before moving westward.) On my most recent visit to California, I bought jamesdavion's old 360 (he went Elite), and with BSG and Heroes on the horizon, it was time to go HD. havelock's recommendation made a total of 3 friends who had the Sony SXRD, so I got Circuit City to whack the price down to a near-even $1500 (with extended warranty, bitches!) for their 50" model. Off to Time Warner for the HD-DVR and HD service and praise His Noodly Appendages, that's a beautiful sight.
So at last, on this momentous Ohio afternoon, I joined the current generation of gamers. I pre-ordered Halo 3, bought the 360 wireless adapter and got a LIVE membership (gamertag Valorian Edoras, for those of you who care). I don't even own a full game yet, but I don't mind; downloading demos and trailers from Marketplace is about as much free time as I need to be spending on this thing until Bungie owns me entirely on Tuesday.
So, yeah. Go me. Now I need to go to bed.
Just as soon as I finish the Eternal Sonata demo.
